How to Upload
It is necessary to prepare your manuscript for upload. It is recommended that you
remove the manuscript .ps and .pdf files. These are files tend to be large and
unnecessary for the upload. It will also be much simpler if you create a .zip file
or .tar.bz2 of the manuscript. If you have questions about how to make these
types of files consult with your local computer support staff.
To upload your manuscript to the ASPCS server you first need to receive an
account from the computer technicians at ASPCS. Once you have this account
you can upload your files by going to http://aspcs-linux.byu.edu/upload/.
When prompted to login use the username and password given to you by ASPCS.
When the web page loads you will see a "Browse" button. Click the
button, a window will open prompting you to select a file to upload. Select your
file and click "OK". You are now ready to upload the file. Click the "Upload
File" button. This will begin the upload process. This may take several minutes or
more to finish.
The progress bar on the bottom will inform you on whether the upload is still in
progress and on whether the upload worked or failed. If the upload takes more
than an hour, it failed. Try breaking the file up into smaller pieces.
Once the file has been uploaded, send an email to Jared
notifying him that the manuscript has been uploaded and is ready to be added to the Subversion repository.
More information about Subversion and why we use it can be found at
http://aspcs-linux.byu.edu/subversion-info.php.
Jared will then email you when the manuscript has been added to the repository. Once
Jared notifies you, you can either checkout the manuscript on the ASPCS server
or checkout the manuscript to your personal computer to be edited there. Instructions on how to
use Subversion can be found at
http://aspcs-linux.byu.edu/svn-crash-course.php.
If you decide to make changes, we will ask you to ensure again that the manuscript
compiles correctly on the ASPCS server.
Note: If you are familiar with SSH and uploading files via SSH then you may
upload your file(s) using that method instead of using the web site.
